In Costa Rica we have more than 45 species of what we called Endemic Birds. The Endemic birds are birds that becomes isolated by geographical barrier for a while and evolved into a new species .
Costa Rica has a range of mountains running more or less continuously the length of the country
West of the ridge is the Pacific slope, to the east is the Caribbean slope
In spite of the small size of Costa Rica many different habitats are included
Wet or humid tropical rain forests, Evergreen forests that are perpetually moist and damp. These conditions , encourage a rich habitat of lush vegetation, tall trees and associated epiphytic growth such as mosses, bromeliads and orchids.
The tropical rain forest and divided into the Caribbean rain forests with huge trees and luxuriant growth. The Pacific rain forests isolated by the dry forests of the north and the high mountains of the Talamanca range.
Cloud Forest, is restricted to higher elevations where clouds envelop the forest for much of each day. The trees are festooned with an even more luxuriant growth of epiphytes and lianas.
Dry Forest is restricted to the northern part of the pacific slope.
Secondary Forest is forest that has regrown after the feeling of primary forest.
Paramo in Costa Rica is found only above 3200m on the highest peak of the Talamanca range.
We are all very appasionate about birdwatching. We know the best spots for birding in Costa Rica and we are always constantly looking for new birding places in the country

Most Unforgettable Guiding Moment:
“The greatest satisfaction in my job is having the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, who share my interests in nature and conservation. My passion for my work has allowed me to acquaint and study different regions of our beautiful country. It is very motivating when the tourists identify with the beauty of Costa Rica - its nature and people.” Elberth graduated as a Costa Rican guide certified by INBio – National Institute of Biodiversity.
Favorite Birds: Black Skimmer –
Most Unforgettable Guiding Moment:
“Since I was born and raised surrounded by the cloud forest, my interest in nature is innate. At a young age, I was able to work for five years as a biology assistant; helping with the white face monkeys project at Lomas de Barbudal Biological Reserve near Bagaces, Costa Rica. Back in Monteverde, I worked for three years at the Monteverde Frog Pond. These experiences coupled with my education and training, provided me with a vast knowledge to lead all types of wildlife tours. I treasure every tour I lead as a unique opportunity to help raise awareness about the importance of nature conservation.”
Favorite Bird: Lovely Cotinga
Most Unforgettable Guiding Moment:
Alex’s family is locally known for their unity, humbleness and hard work. He and his brothers joined the local workforce at a young age, working in agriculture and dairy activities. The choice of a naturalist guide career came as the three brothers wanted to combine their knowledge and passion for the cloud forest in their back yard. “Since childhood, I was always struck by nature and conservation; this is for me, an essential part of our lives.” It has been almost 15 years since Alex, Mauricio and Elberth obtained their licenses and work as Costa Rica naturalist guides.
